DCTS is seeking an industry professional and/or PA State Certified Culinary Arts teacher to teach Culinary Arts in our high school programs.

 

The Culinary Arts program introduces students to the basic concepts of food service industry. With an emphasis on safety, students work with all aspects of institutional food preparation/restaurant food preparation and service. Areas covered include selecting and ordering of ingredients; modifying recipes; safe food preparation processes; nutrition and healthy cooking; use of food preparation tools/equipment; and hospitality industry skills.

 

Candidates submitting applications will be required to demonstrate experience/working knowledge of the institutional and restaurant food preparation industry and related hospitality services.

 

The job of CTE Teacher was established for the purpose/s of providing support to the instructional process by serving as a teacher with specific responsibility for supervising students within the classroom and other assigned areas; developing lesson plans and delivering group and individual student instruction within established curriculum guidelines; collaborating with other teachers, other professional staff, and administrators in addressing instructional and/or classroom issues; and responding to a wide range of inquiries from students’ parents or guardians regarding instructional program and student progress.

 

This culinary teaching position is part of The County Alternative (TCA) High School program. TCA provides a full-time special-education, emotional-support program for secondary students with on-site mental-health services. This program serves high school students with a maximum of 12 students in the culinary program area at one time. Additional TCA staff members assist students during the culinary program.

 

Minimum requirements:

 

Appropriate certificate as required by the Pennsylvania Department of Education (Note:  Minimum four years of full-time, wage-earning work experience is required prior to employment and certification). An applicant with the required wage-earning work experience and eligible for entering into a career and technical certification program for a culinary arts teacher will be considered.
