The Special Education and Mental Health Manager will work with the Early Head Start/Head Start staff to develop, implement and oversee service area personnel that provide support, guidance, training and monitor referral process from the Education staff. Additionally, this position will be required to work on site conducting observations and assessments, provide social-emotional trainings and support to program staff on effective behavior management skills for children 0 to five years of age. The Disabilities and Mental Health Manager is also responsible for identifying trends and patterns, developing program action plans and participating in program planning and development of program objectives and recommending innovative strategies that support the best possible outcomes for children and their families.
Essential Functions
- Plan, develop and implement activities for the Disability Services/Mental Health Components of program that benefit both children and families.
- Analyze screening outcomes and support staff in planning next steps
- Assist in providing intervention to children with disabilities and behavioral health needs at various sites throughout the county through classroom modeling, teacher training and education of staff.
- Coordinate and participate in regularly scheduled case conferences, student study teams, and IEP meetings.
- Identifies each child in the program who appears to have a suspected disability and/or behavioral health concern, and ensures that conditions of each child are diagnosed by a qualified diagnostician.
- Identifies children with atypical behavior or development and provides/facilitates direct services or referrals for additional services.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree in special education, behavioral sciences, counseling, or social work or related field, Masters preferred.
- PDE Special Education Certification (Level II) and/or PA Professional Counselor License Preferred.
- Experience writing Positive Behavior Support (Intervention Plans). Familiarity with mental health resources available to families in Delaware County, PA. Job related experience within the field of special education and mental health with increasing levels of responsibility is required.
