The job of Education Specialist is done for the purpose of providing support and supervision in the implementation of the Head Start Program Performance Standards at the assigned site location(s); providing support to the Early Head Start/Head Start instructional program including leadership in providing resources, information, and materials for teachers and parents, providing support in all aspects of Parent, Family, and Community Engagement, Health and Nutrition, and building specific functions. Provide practice- based coaching to the instructional staff and provide information to parents and volunteers in child growth and development, family services, health and nutrition.
Essential Functions
- Supports Education Manager in the supervision of Teachers and Instructional Assistants
- Provides individualized mentoring and practice- based coaching for instructional staff.
- Supports Special Education/Mental Health Manager in providing support to children with special needs and challenging behaviors.
- Monitors staff implementation of Head Start Program Performance Standards for the purpose of ensuring compliance with established guidelines.
- Leads the day-to-day operations and maintenance of assigned building(s) for the purpose of ensuring and maintaining a safe environment for children, parents, and staff.
- Leads safety and building meetings or drills (e.g. fire drills, lock down drills, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring compliance in an emergency situation or child-specific situation.
- Takes the lead in ensuring that child: staff ratio is maintained for the purpose of ensuring a safe environment for children in compliance with regulatory requirements and established guidelines.
- Evaluates classrooms (using the CLASS observation tool as appropriate) for the purpose of ensuring classrooms are performing at the highest level in all domains and dimensions and to provide direct feedback to staff for the purpose of professional development.
- Assists in program planning and implementation, (i.e. events, trainings, Community Assessment, Self-Assessment, transition, school readiness, etc.).
Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree, in Early Childhood Education or job-related area
No certification is required, CLASS Evaluator Certification Preferred
