The job of Custodian was established for the purpose/s of ensuring that buildings and properties are maintained in order to assure cleanliness and safety consistent with DCIU standards.
Essential functions include, but are not limited to:
- Load and unload materials for the purpose of delivering to the appropriate locations.
- Maintains and makes minor repairs to equipment and permanent structures when needed or reporting malfunctions (e.g. painting, checking all mechanical operating systems) for the purpose of maintaining the safety and appearance of facilities.
- Operate janitorial and other equipment (e.g. snow and ice removal from sidewalks and egresses) for the purpose of maintaining the cleanliness and safety of facilities.
- Perform cleaning duties daily (e.g. cleaning classrooms, cafeteria, gymnasium, other assigned areas and removal of trash) for the purpose of assuring cleanliness and safety.
- Prepare rooms for the purpose of use by groups and for school activities.
- Prepare work orders and other documents related to the position and ordering in advance all necessary supplies related to the assignment for the purpose of fulfilling position assignments.
- Respond to emergency situations for the purpose of assessing the seriousness of the situations and report to the proper departments and officials.
- Secure facilities (e.g. open buildings and disarm alarm systems, lock and set the alarm system) for the purpose of maintaining the security of buildings and equipment
Minimum requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalency
- Valid driver’s license
- Good verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to lift 60 pounds, climb ladders and work at heights
